With the GFP (Grey Field Polariscope), Photoelastic Stress Analysis (PSA) is now fully automatic. After you paint on the coating, just aim the polariscope and “shoot.” A quantitative image of strain or stress is displayed digitally on the system’s computer. The GFP system interprets the data and outputs an image showing the in-plane shear and the direction of the first principal strain.
